The church with the warm heart

Our Core Values

OUR PURPOSE and mission

The purpose and mission statement of Aldersgate is derived from the words of Jesus to His followers and known as The Great Commandment and The Great Commission.

Aldersgate exists to make passionately devoted followers of Jesus Christ by loving God, loving others, and serving and sharing Jesus as the church with the warm heart.

We believe that the Great Commandment + the Great Commission= A Great Church!

Our Bedrock Beliefs

We believe in the Holy Trinity
We believe in salvation through Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
We believe in Christ's Universal Church
We believe in transforming and perfecting grace
We believe in faith and good works
We believe in the coming of God's realm and reign in the world

Our Core Values

In 2001, this congregation went through a prayerful process, under the leadership of Rev. Mitchell Williams and the Holy Spirit, that resulted in an articulation of Aldersgate UMC's Core Values. Core Values are those things, attitudes, decisions that are primary and most important to a person or group of people. The Core Values of Aldersgate are listed below. These give us guidance as to what is important and what is primary as we decide on who we are and how we will be the church. Let us be shaped and inspired to live up to who we are as the people of God.

We value Putting God First.
Just as Jesus' ministry began with a dedication to serve God only, the Christ in us brings into being a generous spirit and personal sacrificial living.

We value Celebrating God.
Owing our salvation to Christ and the power of his resurrection, we can't help but celebrate God with praise and thanksgiving.

We value Caring Ministry.
As Jesus went about healing and setting souls free, we care for and support others through our personal ministries, and through compassionate, Christian fellowship.

We value Personal Spiritual Growth.
Growing spiritually is more than being well informed. It is becoming transformed. Bible study, prayer, and interaction with other Christians change who we are from the inside out.

We value Every Member in Ministry.
We all have our strengths, those things we are really good at - our gifts. We are given a variety of gifts, yet we are one in the spirit.

We value Unity, Not Uniformity.
We value the unique persons who make up this Body of Christ. Each of us is making a personal faith journey while supporting our brothers and sisters in Christ on their journeys.

We value Sharing the Gospel.
In his final commission, the Lord sent us into the world to make disciples by meeting people where they are spiritually and sharing the Good News of Christ.

We value Stepping Out in Faith.
Jesus' example gives us courage to live boldly and honestly. Because he lives, we can risk for his sake without fear.
