The church with the warm heart

United Methodist Women

Purpose of United Methodist Women

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Structure of Aldersgate UMW

The Aldersgate United Methodist Women are organized into four groups called Circles. One group meets in the mornings (the Susannah Circle) and the other three in the evenings (the Bread Circle, Friendship Circle and the Deborah Circle) to allow women a choice of times. Each circle has its own chairperson.
The four circles together form the Unit. The president, vice-president, etc. are all unit officers and the business of the Aldersgate UMW is conducted at the unit level. Here the decisions are made as to how to spend the money, what projects to perform, what the policies are, etc. There are four unit meetings per year.

Membership Guidelines

Membership in UMW is as simple as deciding you would like to belong. You do not have to be a member of Aldersgate to be a member of Aldersgate UMW. All you have to do is come! Ways that women show their membership are by attending circle and unit meetings, working with UMW projects, attending district or conference meetings, making financial contributions, praying and/or accepting leadership responsibility. You do not have to make a financial pledge or a donation to belong.

Mission update

The United Methodist Women (UMW) appreciates all who support our mission projects.   From our Bunco Night we made a $400 donation to the Upper Sand Mountain Ministry which is served by eight small Methodist Churches covering nearly 1,000 square miles of the Appalachian Mountains in Alabama.

The North Alabama Conference and the Northeast District of UMW have asked that we continue to help this mission.  They just sent out a request for bath cloths, bed linens and dish cloths or hand towels to be brought to the Annual Conference of UMW on October 1st.  I know this is late notice, but if your out shopping and want to help with this mission we will have a basket in the narthex for these items.

At our Northeast District meeting on October 15th they are requesting any size of children's clothes.  They do not have to be new.  There will also be a basket for these items.

Help us support our neighbors who have experience a terrible tragedy from all the storms that hit that area.  You truly are the church with the warm heart.  Thank you so much from all the Aldersgate UMW Circles.  Any questions, please contact Nancy Harris or Betty Home.
